The international cast of 12 has been announced for the London premiere of the hotly anticipated musical OSCAR at the Crown, which begins performances on 21 May at its custom-built Tottenham Court Road venue, following sold-out, hit runs in New York and Edinburgh Festival.

The underground dystopian musical takes place in a secret bunker in an Orwellian future, where the only things to survive are reality TV, glitter balls and the complete works of Oscar Wilde.

Guests are invited to drink, party and join the throng of colourful outcasts among burnt-out tube carriages and smashed TV screens, as they ignite the fiery embers of a cultural revolution, propelled by the dramatic rise and fall of the flamboyant literary icon.

THE CAST

Mark Mauriello will relocate from New York to London, to reprise his titular role as Wilde, which The Guardian called “dazzling.” He is also the conceiver and book writer of the theatrical dance party and co-founder of The Neon Coven; American juggernauts in the queer theatre space.

Elizabeth Chalmers is the only other returning member from the show’s Edinburgh Festival production, which The Sun branded “a high-energy show that could be the best musical since SIX.” The Royal Academy of Music trained film and theatre star plays Wilde’s wife, Constance, who is finally given a voice in this production, with soaring vocals and a powerful monologue, which Fest called “a stellar performance.”

Rising Welsh star, Zak Marx will take on the role of Wilde’s aristocratic lover, Lord Alfred “Bosie” Douglas.

Joining them in the international cast of 12 are New York actress Zofia Weretka, reprising the role of Vicki, which she originated in its New York run. The part is inspired by the Real Housewives, which she is doubly familiar with after playing Countess Luann in The Real Housewives of New York: An Unauthorized Parody Musical.

Welsh actress, Elinor Morris will make her professional London debut as Ramona in the show, alongside Luke Farrugia (Frank’s Closet, The Lion King: Rhythm of the Pridelands) as Sonja.

Erika will be played by Kelis Alleyne and the dystopian world’s Exiles will be played by , Isidro Ridout, Ran Marner, Natalie Yin, Ella Daini, alongside Estelle Denison-French as the show’s on stage swing.

The production is created by The Neon Coven; Mark Mauriello; composer, lyricist and choreographer Andrew Barret Cox - creator of the biggest RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni hits - and director Shira Milikowsky, who is lauded for her radical re-imaginings of musicals and classic texts.

OSCAR at the Crown will be brought to London by ROYO, which creates and produces theatre and live entertainment around the world and is one of the UK’s biggest commissioners of new musicals, with hit productions including The Steps musical, Here & Now, 13 Going on 30 The Musical and Kinky Boots.

GOLD SKY is a creative production collaboration between multi-Tony Award-winning producer Rebecca Gold and director/producer Shira Milikowsky, drawing on Shira’s decades of unorthodox directing projects and Rebecca’s repertoire, producing unique theatrical events, including Sleep No More and Life and Trust.

Writers Andrew Barret Cox and Mark Mauriello say: “It’s a dream to finally bring OSCAR to London, especially alongside a team bold and mad enough to open a whole new nightclub for the show to call home. Absolutely crazy.”

OSCAR at the Crown launches on 21 May.
